Next Meeting Information
The HSW Women’s Club is on our Summer Break right now for the months of July and August. Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 12th at 9:30 am, at La Hacienda Rec Center (Ricardo Montalban Room). It is a Welcome Back Luncheon and everyone attending is asked to bring a dish to share with the group.
President's WELCOME
Summer has hit us like a brick oven, but we are still doing our best to get together as we can. Our upcoming Games Night with PotLuck this coming Sunday July 16th at the First Responders Rec Center is one of those events. It is inside where it is cool and promises a different kind of gathering for all. We have 36 signed up so far for this event and we hope to see you all there. There is still time to sign up!
We would like to welcome our new members Barb Fasulo, Loretta Easton, and Taryn Horbotowicz to the fold! We also extend a hearty welcome to our new neighbors and hope you decide to join us at our next meeting in September.
If you have any ideas for events, questions or concerns, the Board and I are always available to talk. Feedback from all of you is how we keep our membership engaged.
Leadership Focus:
The Board is working right now with the By-Laws Committee to review and potentially bring some updates before the membership for consideration and vote later this year. Our Committee of three non-board members (Joanne Hegarty, Val Chirichella, and Linda Scamardi), are currently working on this review for the club. As anyone that has been a part of this process knows, this is quite an undertaking, and we truly appreciate the time and effort that these ladies have given our club.
COMMITTEES
Social Committee Past Events
Edible Arrangements Class
Thank you to Maria Guerrera for putting this event together for the Club. All of the ladies that participated in this event said they had a great time and much of the cost was absorbed by the fruit they were able to take home and eat! The feedback and discussion around the neighborhood was so positive, that we are considering having another one of these classes in the near future, so keep an eye out for the date and time.
Committee Upcoming Events:
As always, we are looking for Volunteers to help out with these events, and perhaps even Chair one. If you are interested, please reach out to a Board member.
LADIES GOLF:
Club members meet every Friday year round for a fun morning of golf and breakfast. This is a noncompetitive group of ladies coming together for fellowship, breakfast, and yes, GOLF! If interested please contact Barb DiLaura, by phone or text, at 954-263-8080.
JULY:
First Responders Rec Center Game Night and PotLuck
This Sunday (TOMORROW), July 16th, 5:30 to 8:00 pm; Cost $5 p/person/member ($7/pp/non-member) and a covered dish. Since this is the heat of the summer, we have an indoor activity to beat the heat. First Responders Rec Center has a variety of indoor activities (darts, billiards, table shuffleboard, table tennis, video games, game/card tables) that we will reserve for only our club during this time period. We are working out some form of competitive play on a few of the games, but this is really an opportunity for us to get together and enjoy each other’s company. A pot luck meal (BYOB) will precede the game period, so join us for an evening of food and fun.
AUGUST
Welcome Back PotLuck Dinner (significant others invited)
Sunday, August 27th, Chula Vista Rec Center. 5 - 6 pm Social Hour, Dinner at 6 pm. Please sign up HERE and let us know if you are bringing a Main Dish, Vegetable/Salad, Rice/Pasta, or Desert. (We are trying to make sure we don’t have too much of one item and not enough of the others). We hope to see you there!
SEPTEMBER
HSWWC Meeting Pot Luck Luncheon
This is our traditional “Welcome Back” Potluck that accompanies our first HSWWC meeting (Tues, Sep 12) after we get back from our summer break. Our membership brings in a variety of breakfast/brunch items to share with the group. It is always great to see the new items that people bring along with our foundation fare. We look forward to seeing you there.
Miniature Golf and Lunch
We have this listed in September, but we are looking to possibly shift this to a cooler month but will follow the weather and potentially shift the date. Once scheduled, and depending on the weather, we are planning on getting together to put the ball into the hole! The estimated cost is $30 p/p and includes both golf and a box lunch delivered to the site. Barb Hatch is the POC for this event. Keep an eye out for any shifts in the calendar.
Scavenger Hunt
Evelyn Krawczyk and Kay Mead are organizing a Scavenger Hunt for September 30th, time is TBD but will probably be towards the end of the day when it is cooler. More information will come as we get closer to the event. We have always had a great time and good turnout for these events and we hope to see you there.
Membership:
If you have any new neighbors that have moved in, please reach out to them and offer to bring them to our next meeting. It is a very good way to “break the ice” and get them involved. Any new members wishing to join in on the fellowship of our club, please come to our next meeting and join. Barb Hatch will be sitting at the entry door to get you signed up!
Fundraising:
With the club canceling the fundraising cruise in January 2024, there has been a lot of behind the scenes work to find alternative fundraising solutions for the club. Kelly Miller and Linda Scarmadi have joined together as Fundraising Co-Chairs for this committee for the club (Thank You!). There have been several meetings and a lot of brainstorming going on the last month or so, and this is what we have tentatively scheduled.
- October 10/22/23: Neighborhood Chili Cook off and Bake Sale
- November 11/05/23: Card Bingo (new type of game) and adding ticketed games at our Annual BBQ.
- Later this year: Potentially an estate sale/garage sale at a members home. Start looking for your items you would like to donate for sale at this event.
- Early 2024: A large scale Bingo Night (open outside of club and neighborhood) open to Villages Residents with Rec Cards.
This Committee and the Board are putting a lot of effort into these events and brainstorming for others, so if you have any ideas, please share them with us. There will be more details forthcoming, so keep a check on the web site to stay up to date.
